Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-06-15. Version v1-2026-04.
Recommended: have a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction review this policy before launch. The text below is a substantive, ready-to-use template, not legal advice.
1. Who we are
Super Chess 16x16 ("we", "us", "the Site") is an online chess club and platform for the chess16x16 variant. The Site is operated by Roberto Monzon. For privacy questions or to exercise any of the rights described below, write to admin @ chess16x16.com.
2. What information we collect
- Account: username, email, hashed password, and (if you choose to provide it) date of birth and display name.
- Profile information: optional profile photo, display name, country, preferred time controls, and a short bio if you choose to add one.
- Game data: moves, results, ratings, opening preferences, and any games you play on the Site. This data is stored so games can be replayed, your rating updated, and the leaderboard computed.
- Content you post: any messages you send other members, blog comments, forum posts, and uploaded files (PGN game records, annotated games).
- Connection metadata: the IP address you connect from, the browser user-agent string, the country we resolve from your IP, timestamps for each login and logout, and the duration of each session.
- Communications with us: emails you send to the admin address.
3. How we use your information
- To create and operate your account and to provide the features of the Site (matchmaking, rating, leaderboard, tournaments, blog).
- To enforce our Terms of Service and to identify and prevent abuse, harassment, cheating (engine assistance), and content that violates our policies or applicable law.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To comply with valid legal process.
4. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information only with:
- Hosting, backup, and infrastructure providers that we use to run the Site, under contract.
- Law-enforcement agencies, courts, or other authorities, when we receive valid legal process and reasonably believe we are required to comply.
Your username, display name, country (if you set one), rating, and completed games ARE visible to other members and to anonymous visitors on profile pages, leaderboards, and the public game viewer; that is how the Site works. Your email, IP, and any private messages are NOT public.
5. How we protect your information
- HTTPS is enforced for every page (TLS certificate from a public CA).
- Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes; the original password is never written to disk or logs.
- Internal access to user records is limited to the admin account identified in the contact email above.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a breach that affects your data, we will notify affected accounts by email at the address on file and on the Site.
6. How long we keep your information
- Active account data is retained for as long as your account is open and active.
- If your account is closed (by you or by us), we move the basic record to a "former members" archive and delete the live account data, except as needed for fraud prevention or legal compliance.
- Connection metadata (logins, IP addresses) is retained for at least 90 days for security audit, then aged out.
- Completed games are retained indefinitely so the public game viewer keeps working; you can request that your games be anonymised after closing your account.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and associated data, with the limits noted in section 6.
- Withdraw consent for any processing that depends on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority in your jurisdiction.
To exercise any of these rights, write to admin @ chess16x16.com from the email address on your account. We will respond within 30 days.
8. International transfers
The Site is operated from servers located in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your home country. By using the Site, you consent to that transfer.
9. Children
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from any person under 13 years of age. If we learn that we have collected such data, we delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has used the Site, write to admin @ chess16x16.com.
10. Cookies
See our Cookie Policy.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced on the Site and (where you have an account) by email.
12. Contact
Questions, requests, complaints: admin @ chess16x16.com.
13. Mobile app (Google Play)
The Android app distributed through Google Play has its own dedicated privacy policy, hosted at /Google_privacypolicy.html. That file is the version submitted to and reviewed by Google Play and governs the data the mobile app collects on your device. If you install the app, please review that document in addition to this policy.
